Dayton Christian Church Values
Our Mission
Our mission at DCC is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ.
Our Vision
Dayton Christian Church is a local, autonomous congregation in Dayton, Oregon. Our values and doctrine are rooted in the Restoration Movement, also known as the independent Christian Churches.
Dayton Christian Church seeks to lead people in Yamhill County to become fully devoted followers of Christ. This is the mission of Jesus, and fully engaged we follow the Great Commandment of Loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, and loving people as Christ has loved us. DCC is a community of Christians working towards this purpose together, by participating in the following:
Worshipping Together – Acknowledging God’s glory and humbling ourselves to His wisdom through musical celebration of Him, meditation in the Holy Scriptures, and fellowship with one another.
Accepting and Sharing Faith in Christ – Publicly celebrating our reconciliation with God through Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection by demonstrating repentance and covenant through baptism. Following this, being so transformed by the grace of Christ we demonstrate in our words, actions, and reputation a desire to lead unchurched people to discover Jesus as Lord.
Serving in the Local Church, in Dayton and Beyond – Being an active member and participant in the mission of Jesus at DCC, which leads others to becoming disciples of our Lord.
What We Believe
GOD
We believe the One True God, YAHWEH, is the creator of the world/universe. He has eternally existed and has, over the centuries, made Himself known in three distinct ways: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is characterized by love, holiness, grace, and justice. Genesis 1:1-27; Exodus 3:14-15; Psalm 8:3-6; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14
JESUS
We believe that Jesus is the only Son of God, sent as Savior of and to the world. We believe in His deity, virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death on the cross, and physical resurrection from the grave. We believe He has ascended to heaven and will one day return to take us home. Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5 & 14; 1:10-30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15
HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian and the Church; that He comforts, guides, equips, and enables believers for life and ministry. We believe He operates through the Word of God to convert the unsaved and empower the saved, seeking to bring us into Christ-likeness. John 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Ephesians 1:13 & 5:17-18; Titus 3:5-7
THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God. We believe the Old Testament Scriptures are a unified story which finds fulfillment in Jesus as Messiah, and the New Testament Scriptures reveal who Jesus is, how He reconciles us to God, and how we are to live in community as His Church. The Bible is the Final Authority for faith and life. The Bible reveals the heart and mind of God to us. It also judges the thoughts and intentions of our heart. It is used for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. Psalm 119:11 & 105; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21
SIN
We believe, that as human beings, we are created in the image of God. However, we also believe that "all have sinned and fall short of God's glory." Sin, in essence, is missing God's mark, His will and way for our lives. Sin is disobedience to God's commands. Genesis 1:27 & 3:22; Isaiah 53:6a & 59:1-2; Romans 3:23 & 6:23
SALVATION
We believe that salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must receive it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Salvation comes only through faith in the person and redeeming work of Jesus. It comes to us by God's grace. The process of salvation involves believing in Jesus as Savior, repenting of one's sins, confessing Jesus as Lord, being immersed (baptized) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins and gift of the Holy Spirit, and living a life characterized by His Lordship - obedience to His commands. John 1:12 & 14:6; Acts 2:38-39; Romans 5:1 & 6:4, 23; Galatians 3:26-27; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 3:21
ETERNITY
We believe that people were created by God to exist forever. As a result, we will either exist eternally separated from God by our sin or eternally with God through grace and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be in union with Him is Heaven - eternal glory. Heaven and Hell are real places. John 3:16-17 & 14:17; Romans 6:23 & 8:17-18; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9; Revelation 20:15
CREATION & THE SANCTITY OF LIFE
We believe that God created mankind in His image, male and female, from birth. We believe that all human life is sacred and is of inestimable worth in all dimensions. This includes pre-born babies, the elderly, the physically or mentally challenged, and every stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. Genesis 2; Psalm 139
MARRIAGE & RELATIONSHIPS
We believe marriage is sanctioned by God, joining one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union. We believe sexual relationships were created by God for men and women to experience in the safety and security of a marriage between one man and one woman. This creates the foundation of both family and communities which honor the Creator. We believe that a person's sex is established by God at birth, and that God does not make mistakes. Genesis 2:24; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7:8-9; Matthew 19:5; Ephesians 5:31; Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13-16
