What is the BIG GIVE?
From November 1st to January 31st, Dayton Christian Church is participating in an opportunity to both support some amazing organizations and grow spiritually through being generous. The Big Give is a special offering in which we commit to support others outside the church, and do so above and beyond our usual tithes and offerings. Here are the efforts we are financially supporting through this year’s Big Give campaign:
Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse) - US & Global
Operation Christmas Child sends shoeboxes full of Christmas cheer to children all over the world. Many of these kids are displaced due to war and poverty. Opening a shoebox full of toys, toiletries, crafts, socks, and stuffed animals is greater experience than the sum of its contents. These boxes give hope to the least and littlest, and Jesus teaches us when we welcome and care for them it is the greatest ministry we can participate in (Mark 9:37). This year Dayton Christian Church is planning to send over five hundred boxes! We know these boxes won’t ship themselves, so we’re raising funds through the BIG GIVE to send God’s blessings all over the world!
Winter Wish - Dayton, OR
Winter Wish supports homeless kids and financially struggling families ion Dayton during the Christmas season. Kids are given the ability to shop for clothes, shoes, and other necessities. Families are blessed with a Christmas food and gifts. We are excited to be a part of supporting Winter Wish again this year, and know God is going work miracles through the BIG GIVE.
Tyler King - Ethiopia
Tyler King is a second generation missionary. DCC has long supported Matt and Jan King through African Inland Missions. Our missions team leader, Sharon Hawley, had the opportunity to speak with Tyler King at Wi-Ne-Ma’s Week of Missions conference this past summer. She left moved by Tyler’s passion for the Ethiopian people. After listening to one of Tyler’s short meditations the conference, Pastor Josh was amazed by this young man’s desire to maker disciples in the remote, unreached areas of our world. We’re excited to support Tyler King as he begins this new journey of following God’s call into vocational missions.
International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES) - US and Global Reach
IDES exists to meet physical and spiritual needs of suffering people throughout the world in the name of Jesus Christ. IDES puts boots on the ground in some of the most hard hit areas by disasters. They put life-saving resources in the hands of people who are immediately thrown into poverty, hunger, and displacement following tragedies. All through this work they seek to bring people to salvation from the greatest disaster of all, separation from God. Through the Big Give we are seeking to help IDES build two crucial shelters used to house life-giving supplies whether in the wake of a wildfire, hurricane, or earthquake.
As We Go Missions - Zimbabwe & Haiti
As We Go Missions helps plant and support churches in some of the most remote and poverty-stricken areas of Zimbabwe and Haiti. They train and support local pastors and Christians in these churches, so they can make disciples in their communities. As We Go believes that indigenous churches are in the best place to serve the Kingdom in their culture. Through the Big Give we are supporting Bruce and Sherry Thacker in an upcoming mission to Zimbabwe.
What is this year’s BIG GIVE goal?
BIG GIVE Goal: $20,000.00
Miracle Goal: $25,000.00
We believe God can do incredible things through this season of giving. By reaching our goal of $20,000.00 we’ll be able to accomplish great things for God’s Kingdom, starting in Dayton and extending through the whole world! If we hit our miracle goal of $25,000.00 we can do even more good supporting two of our Oregon missionary partners, Wi-Ne-Ma Christian Camp and OCEF’s latest church project, Oakridge Christian Church.
Why Financially Support The BIG GIVE?
Generosity is one of the most important ways we can do the work of evangelism. By selflessly supporting others, and doing so because we’ve been inspired and transformed by the grace of Jesus, can completely change someone’s perspective on what is possible with God. If you’re a member, regular attender, or supporter of Dayton Christian Church tithing to God’s church is a part of our faith at work, so we encourage your BIG GIFT offering to be above what you are also giving. In other words, please do not trade your usual tithe to Dayton Christian Church for supporting the BIG GIVE. We encourage you to do both. This may seem like a big ask, but sometimes God uses opportunities to stretch our faith through opportunities like the BIG GIVE. If you are a member and are not regularly tithing, we encourage you to do so in addition to the BIG GIVE. If you are a guest, friend or family of a DCC member, or casual supporter of DCC, we absolutely encourage you to participate in the BIG GIVE. Finally, if you’re a skeptic, and this sounds like yet one more time the church is asking for your money, we want you to know none of the funds we raise through the BIG GIVE will go to the general budget of Dayton Christian Church. This is our opportunity to do something for someone else, cheerfully and generously.
